Jia Youfu, artist enchanted by Taihang Mountains

A landscape artist with distinctive contributions in landscape painting, Jia Youfu’s works further breakthrough following after Li Keran. Much inspired by Taihang Mountains, a place of dramatically beautiful scenery, Ya Youfu made Taihang Mountains the primary source of his artistic creation. He assimilates the expressiveness and abstraction of contemporary Western painting and blends them with his innovative use of splashed-ink technique. He employs accumulated-ink and broken-ink techniques and applies his brush in a calligraphic manner. What is most striking are the achievements of sculptural and three-dimensional effect in his paintings. His large paintings often contain elements of theatricality rarely observed among other great landscape painters. Jia Youfu is a director professor of the Chinese Artists’ Association, and professor of the Central Artist Institute.
