Much inspired by Taihang Mountains, a place of dramatically beautiful scenery, Ya Youfu made Taihang Mountains the primary source of his artistic creation. He employs accumulated-ink and broken-ink techniques and applies his brush in a calligraphic manner. What is most striking are the achievements of sculptural and three-dimensional effect in his paintings. His large paintings often contain elements of theatricality rarely observed among other great landscape painters.
